Festivids 2026-2027

- 28 Days Later (2002): I'm not really a horror fan, but this film was such a fun watch! I think the found family and hope in a world of utter isolation and desperation is lovely.
- Arrested Development (TV): This show was so SMART! Every joke was layered and just *chef's kiss*, especially the first three seasons. Whatever you can whip up here would be lots of fun!
- Adolescence (TV): I had NO idea what I was walking into when I watched this. Not only was the story and acting GRIPPING and emotive (I was literally crying at the end), but the filming was so unique and enticing. A vid capturing this filming technique would be super interesting. And of course, the story that this vid would tell would be soul-crushing (and I'm all for it!)
- Cabaret (1972): So funny story - I went to see this on Broadway last year and unfortunately fell asleep (through no fault of the show!) so I figured I'd watch the movie to try to fill in the gaps. The movie is pretty different from the show, but goodness, did I love it! I have a such a soft spot for Sally and Brian! An alternative though is the dealing with the Plot A of this movie - the foreboding and insidious horror of 1930s Germany; it would be so interesting to see a vid that showcases that.
- Coupling (UK): This show!! This was a huge part of my teen years and it holds a dear piece of my heart! Jeff was my absolute favorite, but Sally/Patrick were a wonderful build-up.
- Humans (UK TV 2015): Taken before its time! Admittedly I only started watching for Colin Morgan, but fell for the other characters (especially the Synths) and the exploration of the utter sameness of "human" and "other." I think this one all the more pertinent with AI becoming such a permanent fixture in our real lives. It'd be an interesting show to revisit, even if it's vid form! (FYI-I always thought the song Wonderful Life by Smith and Burrows would work very well for this show as a poignant examination on what it means to be human and hope that comes alongside...)
- The IT Crowd (TV UK): Okay, so I can't be the only one that watched Operation Mincemeat (amazing show, btw!) and instantly got Maurice Moss vibes from Charles Cholmondeley! I don't know how you'd make this work, but a vid using Dead in the Water for Moss would be hilarious! And if that doesn't work, anything highlighting the characters or their craziness would be great!
- Mr Bean (TV UK): I just don't think the genius that is Mr. Bean, as a concept, will ever die. It's ridiculous, yet so simple. Mr. Bean is the extreme version of who we can be when dealing with the outside world. And it's HILARIOUS - the physicality alone! Rowan Atkinson really does a superb job!
- Red Dwarf (UK TV): This series has such a quirky mix of sharp British humor and inventive sci-fi storytelling. The oddball characters and their dysfunctional camaraderie only add to the hilarity! I think Lister and Rimmer are my favorites, but Kryten is adorable as well. Bonus points if you can make something of sincere vid or a character study vid! (I recently thought Marina & the Diamond's Oh No would work so well for Rimmer!)
- Snatch: Gosh, this movie is a riot! The gritty, dark comedy is so well-done and balanced with genuine moments of tension. Would love to see anything about this - whether it's focusing on the humor, the unique characters, or the action-packed boxing.

Veil of Shadows (2026)
Oct. 3rd, 2026 10:14 pmamalthiaMy friend and I just finished watching "Veil of Shadows" on Netflix and we had a blast. If you liked "Fangs of Fortune," this TV show should be enjoyable as well. It was filmed by the same director and has some of the same cast. I loved the story, the fantasy elements, like shapeshifting and magic, the visuals, the fight sequences, the last 10 episodes had me crying, and the ending worked for me.
Everyone in the cast was hot in different ways.

I think either Search the Seven Hills, Bride of the Rat God, or The Ladies of Mandrigyn (which apparently has a lesbian side couple) is going to be next on my to-read list of her works.
On the audiodrama side of things, I'm not sure the most recent Big Finish Thirteenth Doctor Adventures installment is quite as strong as some of the earlier ones, but I still enjoyed it.

Sep. 28th, 2026 01:39 pmaurumcalendulaWhile there was overlap between (X/G) Xena fandom and (J/7) Voyager fandom, vidding-wise (going by Roach's Xena Video Archives and various vidders' websites) it looks like a significant amount of Xena vidders were more into Buffy and/or Witchblade than Voyager.
I'm still so curious about the 1996 Xena vids (no luck so far finding any more info). As is, I think Katharine's B5 vid is the potential earliest (since it might have been made in Feb 1997) femslash fanvid I've found concrete info on.
In other vidding news, Festivids sign-ups are open! I've suddenly realized I miscounted my planned requests, so now I'm trying to decide what to drop. (I'm also angsting a bit about somehow managing to nominate a non-canonical version of Wiseguy's fandom tag and hoping that won't complicate things.)

Ghost in the Cell (d. Joko Anwar, 2026)

A journalist has just come back from investigating illegal mining – and some mysterious deaths – in Borneo, when his boss is brutally murdered. He ends up in prison, where we meet our film’s real hero Anggoro and his band of plucky misfits. After the journalist arrives, a series of gorey Hannibal-esque deaths begin. (Partway through I wondered if there was something wrong with me that this sort of thing doesn’t even shock me anymore.)
The deaths seem to occur to those who are the most angry – and who have red auras, according to one of our supernaturally inclined prisoners. The way to stop your aura becoming red? Religion or art. The prayer room films up quickly, and Anggoro and friends have to turn to the dance classes in the next room over.
Eventually the ghost’s motives are deduced, and the inmates set about enabling its mission (and using the aura-thing to their advantage). We get various critiques of Indonesian society, and of corruption in particular, along the way.

Thank you so so much for making a vid for me!! First of all, have fun and enjoy the vidding!! I love all these sources and can't wait to see what you will do with them. I like many kinds of vids, they can be sad, funny, silly, serious, over the top, a mixture of things. I like character studies, ensemble vids, shipping and slash vids, meta vids, it's all good. The same goes for music, I tend to prefer fast paced songs, but there are also vids to slow songs out there that I adore.
The only dislike I have is that I don't like voice overs. A bit of dialogue at the beginning or end is fine, but constant dialogue during a vid does not work for me. It pulls me out of the flow and I don't know whether to listen to the song or the lines and I end up not being able to get into it.
If you already have an idea in mind by all means go for it! If there's this one vid for this one source that you've always yearned to make, this is your chance! Here are some details about these sources and what I love about them.

I LOVE these movies so much, especially the first one. Doc and Marty's friendship is a thing of beauty and I would love a vid that celebrates that.
Bob's Burgers (cartoon)
I love this show so much! All the characters are amazing and I love the mixture of chaotic antics and heart and sincere emotions.
Tango & Cash (1989) SAFETY
I adore this extremely 1980s over the top in every way movie. It's like they made it specifically with me in mind. Anything for this, please. If you make it gay (or, you know, even gayer than the movie itself), even better!
Slow West (2015) SAFETY
A really gorgeous western. It's kind of whymsical and sweet but also brutal in places. I think bittersweet and hopeful captures is quite well.
Two Mules for Sister Sara (1979) SAFETY
I've seen this movie many times and it's always fun to watch. Clint Eastwood is stoic gunslinger who rescues a woman from bandits. Turns out the woman (Shirley MacLaine) is a nun on a mission (or is she?). Together, they go on a wild west road trip adventure.
Young Guns
I love these movies so much. I love that they are fun 80s badass cowboy movies, but at the same time they're also pretty bleak and tragic. I adore Doc/Billy and would love something that deals with their complicated relationship. A vid from Chavez' point of view would also be interesting. Or anything really, you can't go wrong!
The Long Walk (Movie 2025) [SAFETY]
This movie captures my favorite book (for the most part) really well. I love the visuals and the friendships.
The Nice Guys (2016) [SAFETY]
I love this movie, all of it, the visuals, the relationships and Ryan Gosling being a hot mess express during all of it.
Men in Black (movies)
I love these movies!! They are a big part of my childhood and Jay and Kay's friendship is a beautiful thing!
Please be assured that I love all these sources. I have focused on some more than others, but I'd LOVE a vid about any of these.
